Understanding RTO Jurisdiction in Raipur
Raipur and Chhattisgarh have distinct RTO jurisdictions. CG-04 covers the core Raipur city limits, while other CG codes cover the rest of Chhattisgarh areas. When buying or selling a vehicle, transferring the registration within the same jurisdiction is faster than moving it between different RTOs, which requires an inter-RTO NOC.
The Importance of Hypothecation Termination
Many vehicle owners make the mistake of paying off their vehicle loan but failing to remove the hypothecation (HP) from the RTO records. Until HP is terminated using a Bank NOC (Form 35), you cannot sell the vehicle, nor can you easily claim insurance in case of a total loss. We recommend removing the HP immediately after your loan is closed.
Insurance: Third-Party vs. Comprehensive
By law (Motor Vehicles Act), every vehicle on Indian roads must have at least Third-Party insurance. This covers damages to others but not your own vehicle. Comprehensive insurance (often with a Zero Depreciation add-on) is highly recommended for newer vehicles to cover repair costs for your own car or bike in case of an accident.
